Fiazah's paragraph

Emerging through the silver mist a shaft of sunlight revealed itself on the tropical Pandora. Hovering high in the sky, the helicopter flew towards the breathtaking Hallelujah mountains. The magical mountains danced as the wind whistled softly in and out of it’s long vines. Just then, Jake landed on his banshee, he looked out at the awe inspiring Pandora, his eyes widened in amazement.

Jamal's Avatar Writing

Meanwhile, lurking in the shadows of Pandora was somthing vile, a creature so hideous it would make the bravest of souls shiver with fear. This creatures name was Heatblister. His body was blood red, bursting with explosive anger and he was very short tempered. Neytiri had always suspected something on the darker side of Pandora so she decided to fly over and investigate she got on a banshee and flew off into the horizon. Little did she know of the horrors she would face...

Kayinat's Avatar Writing

The evil blood red Na'vi's had made Pandora so vile and abhorrent that if a bird visited, it would die helplessly just gazing at it. It was like a devil had invaded Pandora. Hometree was sleeping on the floor as the savages were on top enjoying its demise. The odour was so foul that even Hometree, lying dead in the fall, could smell it. It was washed out and colourless. All you could see was black and brown. This was because of the devastating disaster that the sky people inflicted, the red Na'vi's, these demons, loved every second of it.

Djanogly Library: Picture Books

Today Miss Warren from Djanogly Library came to visit. We were given a selection of picture books and had to choose which our favourites were. Miss Warren then read us The Whisperer by Nick Butterworth - it was really good. Here is a selection of our favourites

Which picture book did you like and why?

Queens Medical Centre

Today we went to the Queens Medical Centre Hospital in Nottingham. It was very interesting to learn about how to save lives and what to do when we are faced with an emergency. We can all help someone now by remembering DR's ABC.

D is for Danger
R is for response
S is for shout
A is for Airway
B is for Breathing
C is for CPR (cardio pulmonary resuscitation)

We were taught how to put someone in the recovery position and deal with someone who has been injured but isn't unconscious.

We were taken on a tour of the Children's Ward and shown lots of the different pieces of equipment that is used such as a pulse and oxygen monitor and the needle used for stitching up nasty cuts. Afterwards we all had our fingers put into plaster - it was lots of fun and we learnt a lot about what goes on in a hospital and most importantly how to cope if we see someone injured.

Avatar Masks

In our art lessons this term we have been making Avatar Masks. We really like them and they are fun to wear. If you want to make your own here's how:
How to make an Avatar Mask
1. Firstly, blow up a balloon
2. Mix pva glue with a little water to make a thin paste similar to yoghurt.
3. Next, tear some strips of newspaper and dip these in the glue.
4. Cover the whole of the balloon with 4 - 5 layers of gluey newspaper.
5. Leave it overnight so it can dry completely.
6. Once it is dry cut the balloon in half and then cut out two diamonds where the eyes will go.
7. Add more paper for the nose, cheeks, lips and eyebrows and using the same technique as before glue more paper over them to attach in place.
8. Leave to dry overnight.
9. Now paint the mask in blue (use darker shades to highlight shadows on cheeks and lips)
10. Decorate the mask with small white spots on the nose cheeks and forehead.
11. Finally attach coloured wool for the eyebrows and hair.
Enjoy wearing your mask!
